Putin inspects nuclear sub keel-laying

Visiting the Sevmash naval shipbuilders near Arkhangelsk Monday, President Putin presided over a ceremony to lay down a new missile-carrying nuclear-powered submarine.

He fastened a metal plate on the hull with the ship’s name engraved on it, reading ‘Knyaz Vladimir’, in memory of Duke Vladimir the Great who ruled medieval Rus in the late10th century.

The ship opens a line which should include another seven similar ships. All eight subs should be built before 2020. The model is noted for its advanced computerization and quietness.

The Servmash company has already built a whopping 128 nuclear-powered submarines.
