Turkey admits jet was downed in Syrian airspace

Turkey has acknowledged that its downed F-4 jet had entered Syrian airspace.

A diplomatic spokesman also said on Sunday that the exact location of the downing is already known, and the plane must be resting on the Mediterranean seabed at a depth of about 1,300 metres.

The debris is yet to be located. It is still unclear whether the plane’s two pilots managed to bail out.

The jet disappeared from radar screens Friday shortly after taking off from an airbase in southeastern Turkey.
