Clinton’s comment on Duma election disrespectful to OSCE – Lavrov
The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said that the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton showed disrespect for the OSCE and tried to score some additional points on the media scene, given the US election campaign, when making allegations concerning Russia’s Duma elections on Sunday.
When addressing a news conference in Vilnius earlier today, Lavrov said that some delegates had obviously come to the OSCE forum just to voice disagreements.
Clinton and her team have obviously come to Vilnius to score points with the electorate. If they have claims to lay, they should air these in a dialogue, the Russian Foreign Minister said.
Lavrov made his statement to comment on reports by some mass media that he has curtailed his visit to the Lithuanian capital due to Clinton’s critical remarks.
Russian FM refuses to attend today’s OSCE meeting in Vilnius
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has refused to attend today’s OSCE meeting in Vilnius.
No sooner had the ministerial meeting got under way in the Lithuanian capital on Tuesday, than the US State Secretary Hillary Clinton levelled scathing criticism at Russia for the December 4th elections to the Russian Parliament’s lower house, the State Duma.
The Russian Foreign Minister found the remark made by his US counterpart that the December 4th election was "neither free, nor fair" unacceptable.
Meanwhile, in Moscow, the Foreign Ministry has voiced hope that the United States will refrain from unfriendly attacks.
Russian citizens have made their choice, and it is only they who have the right to determine the future of their country, irrespective of any politicized prescriptions, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
