A 144-page debut novel by Arthur Conan Doyle will for the first time see light, first in Britain at the end of September, and then in Russia, in December.

The Narrative of John Smith, the writer’s first attempt at writing, will come out with illustrations in the form of Conan Doyle’s facsimile manuscripts.

The novel can be described as autobiographical, as the main character resembles the writer in characteristic features and life and position in society.

The narrative was never published before. Arthur Conan Doyle sent it to the publisher but it got lost in the mail and he had to re-write it from memory.
