Persecution of opposition members in Belarus is a new precedent in the global affairs –US Senator Richard Durbin told reporters in Minsk on Friday. He says the arrest of 600 people, who were protesting against the presidential election results, is a step back for the country’s democracy.

Persecution of opposition members in Belarus is a new precedent in the global affairs –US Senator Richard Durbin told reporters in Minsk on Friday. He says the arrest of 600 people, who were protesting against the presidential election results, is a step back for the country’s democracy.

The Senator also noted the violation of the rights of those arrested and urged the Belarusian government to leave the families and lawyers of oppositionists alone.
