Kamchatka volcano spews ash to 5.5 kilometres

The Shiveluch volcano in the north of Kamchatka has spewed ash to an altitude of 5.5 kilometres. Streams of lava are flowing down its slopes. According to the Russian Academy of Sciences’ geophysical service for Kamchatka, the volcano is posing danger to overflying planes. Shiveluch is one of the biggest volcanoes on the Kamchatka Peninsula.

Shiveluch is one of the biggest volcanoes on the Kamchatka Peninsula. It “woke up” in December 2006 and has since remained active.
