Valery Gergiyev, the world-famous presenter of musical art stars – suffice it to mention here such singers as Anna Netrebko and Dmitry Khvorostovsky, whom Gergiev actually led to the world stage told the press conference should the following:

“Winners of the 2011 Tchaikovsky Contest will also gain their “traffic ticket”, should they prove they are worth it. Measures will be taken to provide them with ample opportunity to show their worth: they will have a chance to perform with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra within the framework of the White Nights Festival or Easter Festival and also with the New York or Chicago orchestra…And besides, with 5 or 6 orchestras, which I led and which are on the list of the world’s best orchestras. I’ve already told them that the future Tchaikovsky Competition winners or at least, the gold medal winners would perform with me. And who will be among those who will go on a tour of America and Japan together with the Mariinsky opera troupe I’ll decide myself”.

Valery Gergiyev believes that this measure will be helpful in raising the authority of the Tchaikovsky Contest in the world. “The contest that came into being 50 years ago was organized on a wide scale,” the conductor said. “We understand though that today we’re not the first in the world, and this should be acknowledged. And our task is to return the contest to its proper place”.

To gain fame the Tchaikovsky Competition should be brilliant talents, not Russia’s fight against the rest of the world. Should this mission be a success, everybody will start feeling again that what the Tchaikovsky Competition was famous for and proud of in the first 12 to 16 years of its existence has again become its domain. At that time everybody knew that the Tchaikovsky Competition is one of the major creative contests in the world. Expectation of a miracle was an inseparable part of all Tchaikovsky competitions. It was just expectation of a miracle, not a fierce fight for medals, Valery Gergiyev stresses.

He has invited Richard Rodzinski, a specialist from the USA, to get involved in the work to organize the next Tchaikovsky Contest, which is hard and tedious enough. That was witty of him to compare his choice with the invitation Hus Hidding received: to train the Russian football team. And one more thing: a powerful international PR campaign to draw attention to the contest will precede it. For this purpose a huge resource of the Internet network, including E-mail, blogs and social networks, will be used. This project will be launched next month.

And finally one more very important thing Valery Gergiyev and his aides paid attention to – the transparency and objectivity of assessments jurors will make. Valery Gergiyev provided assurances on that score, adding that he personally is holding the talks with the most authoritative and non-engaged musicians from different countries over their participation in the jury. With all those who will surely take notice of a miracle, if it appears.
