Once in a life time, blues legend Albert King's famous lyrics "Lord if it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all" have a particular tangible meaning for some, and the story of this lucky American lady proves just that.

A Wenatchee woman struck gold earlier this month by winning a $190,000 lottery prize in a most unexpected way… by forgetting her family's memorable dates when filling in her lottery ticket.

The Washington State resident, who understandably wished to remain anonymous, has revealed to the lottery officials that she only managed to win the Hit 5 lottery because she had forgotten a slip of paper containing important dates in her family on her way to the Plaza Super Jet store, where she purchased the lucky ticket.

When she reached the store, the woman discovered her loss, but could not remember either the exact dates, or their sequence, opting in favor of picking random numbers for her lottery ticket.

"I wrote down the numbers from special dates and anniversaries in my family, but left the paper at home so I ended up just using QuickPick," said the lucky winner.

"It's a good thing I forgot it!"

The lady intends to ‘pay back' her family for her forgetfulness by using the mighty lottery prize to fund the renovation of the family home.

Though, cheekily, she is keeping a part of the prize, treating herself with a trip to New York and a Broadway performance of her favorite musical, Jersey Boys.
