Gone are the days when women were expected to sit with their knees together in the “lady-like” pose while men took up all the extra space with their man-spreading.
Today the "power stance" pose sees women sitting with their legs spread open in front of the camera. The new trend is taking Instagram by storm.
It was started by models and Instagram celebrities such as Bella Hadid, Nadia Lee Cohen and Kaia Gerber posing for the camera in glamour shots with their legs spread.
As Refinery29.com highlighted the pose screams “I own this space. Ask me about it.”
The pose is designed to “empower women as it bucks the tradition of sitting poised with your knees together,” online newspaper The Sun wrote.
Model Hailey Baldwin, celebrity Kylie Jenner and singer Jennifer Lopez joined in the trend also by sharing their women-spread photos, apart from the thousands of other women on Instagram who are sharing similar photos of their daily life.
