A London-based lawyer proposed to his girlfriend on a plummeting plane while oxygen masks were dropping and passengers were screaming in horror.

Chris Jeanes wanted to ask his girlfriend Casey Kinchella to marry him on their romantic holiday in Bali. However, his plans went astray when the airplane they were flying on started losing altitude dramatically and the passengers were preparing to crash.

“The AirAsia flight from Australia to Bali fell 20,000ft in just nine minutes and the cabin crew ordered passengers into the crash position,” online publication The Mirror reported.

Chris decided to pop the question to his girl there and then.

He later told NBC News: "Luckily she said yes. We both reconfirmed with each other when we were on the ground."

The shocking video footage from on board the Airbus A320 shows the seats shaking fiercely and passengers can be heard gasping as they were preparing to crash.

As a result, the aircraft made an emergency landing at Perth airport in Australia. According to AirAsia, the incident was explained by technical malfunctions.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is investigating the incident. FlightRadar24, a live air tracking service, reported that the aircraft lost two thirds of its altitude in nine minutes.
