Football hooliganism is nothing new for England, but fan violence hit a new low during a Europa League game, when a child-wielding fan struck a French player.

A fan of the Liverpool-based football club Everton  interfered in a brawl between the British football club and France's Lyon in a Europa League match. What made the matter especially shocking was that he was carrying a little boy with his other arm.

A video showed the man trying to punch Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes during Thursday's fight at Goodison Park in Liverpool.

"There was a supporter who punched him [Lopes]. I think it's not normal," Lyon striker Bertrand Traore was quoted by The Guardian as saying.

The melee was caused by an Everton defender brutally tackling Lopes in the 64th minute of the game, which saw Everton lose 2-1.

The British club was quick to slap a lifetime ban on the fan over the incident, which is already under investigation.
