We all know about the predator-prey relationship; however, we sometimes forget that our pets also have that instinctual drive. Recently, a pet cat demonstrated how it very much has not forgotten its true nature.

Footage shared on YouTube by Viral Hog captures a feline in East Setauket, New York, in a standoff with a squirrel in a tree. The two animals are captured hanging onto the tree directly across from each other on opposite sides of the trunk.

Unfortunately for the cat, it could not keep hanging on after the squirrel zoomed to the top branches.

"My cat spent an hour watching this squirrel, only to get sooo close and miss out!" the adventurous feline’s owner told the video licensor.

    Better luck next time!
