Golden Retriever Obsessed With Reflection in Mirror

Dogs are perfectly capable of seeing their image in the mirror, but they do not associate themselves with the pooch they perceive. For them, the image in the mirror strikes them as an unfamiliar relative and, having seen it, the dog may initially be interested.

Many dogs react to their own reflection as they would a stranger, but quickly lose interest, since the fuzzy object does not generate odour signals. The curious canine encounters a familiar-looking fellow golden retriever, but their one-sided quarrel ends with a bonk in the nose.
