The F-35B Lighting II, a fifth-generation US Navy fighter, made the first vertical landing on the universal landing ship USS Wasp, stationed in the port of the Japanese city of Okinawa. The corresponding video was posted on the YouTube channel of the American defence contractor Raytheon.

Lockheed Martin's F-35 Lightning II is a family of multifunctional fifth generation fighter-bombers, developed by the American firm Lockheed Martin in three versions: a ground-based fighter (CTOL) for the US Air Force,  a short take-off, vertical landing(STOVL) vehicle for the US Marine Corps and the British Navy, and a deck fighter (CV) for the needs of the US Navy.
