Daredevil Divers Plunge From Bosnian Bridge During Centuries-Old Contest

A tradition of diving from the Stari Most (Old Bridge), a 16th-century Ottoman bridge in the town of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, dates back to the time the bridge was built.

The official diving competition was inaugurated in 1968 and has been held annually in late July despite the bridge's destruction during the Croat-Bosnian War in November 1993. The rebuilt bridge opened on July 23, 2004.

This year, 41 competitors took part in Mostar's competition on July 30. Thrill-seekers leaped from into the Neretva River from the 24-meter-high bridge in an attempt to claim the title of the 2017 Red Bull Cliff World Series champion.
