Winter is in a full swing in southern part of South America, but snow is a rare weather phenomenon in Chile’s capital even in this time of the year.

On July 16, snowfall hit Santiago for the first time in a decade, leaving the city covered with a 3 to 5 centimeters of snow. The temperatures in the "chilly" Chilean capital dropped below zero, which is also said to be the lowest in almost 10 years. It was reported that hundreds of thousands households were left without power due to the unexpected bout of cold weather.
