Rare 'Mini Tsunami' Hits the Netherlands Coast

Two-meter-high tidal waves reminiscent of a tsunami were captured on camera in Zandvoort Noord-Holland, Netherlands, in the morning of May 29. In this video, powerful waves are seen washing boats, deck chairs and beach umbrellas away from the shore.

The unusual phenomenon, called a meteorological tsunami, is generated when rapid changes in atmospheric pressure cause the displacement of a body of water. According to local media reports, it is so rare that it is the first time it has been filmed and documented so well.
