The exercises are taking place at Egypt's El Alamein military base and aim to develop common approaches for destroying illegal armed groups in deserts.

Egyptian and Russian paratroopers participated in their first joint military exercise in Africa. The anti-terrorist drills codenamed "Defenders of Friendship 2016" kicked off on October 15 and will last until October 26.
