On Tuesday, Russia deployed its advanced S-400 Triumf air defenses to Hmeymim air base in Syria. The hardware was delivered to the military facility by plane.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced the deployment of the S-400 systems on Wednesday, a day after a Russian Su-24 bomber was shot down by a Turkish fighter jet in Syria.

The S-400, an upgrade to the S-300 system, ensures air defense using long-range and medium-range missiles that can hit targets at ranges of up to 400 kilometers.
