A video taken with a restaurant's CCTV camera shows a man producing a rat from his pocket and shouting out in alarm in an attempt to get a free meal.

On Valentine’s Day, Cristopher Baker ordered a dinner at the Borneo Bistro in Sunderland, England, but then secretly released a rodent from his pocket.

He paid the bill but then put the animal on the floor, started shouting and said he wanted his money back.

Waiters apologized, Baker was given his money back and left the restaurant.

By then, the restaurant owner had spotted the rat looked suspiciously clean and identified it as a pet. Pest controls experts later agreed the animal looked like a pet and released the rat into the wild.

Baker, 28, pleaded guilty to fraud. He was sentenced to a 12-months community service and was told to pay compensation to the bistro owner.
