It has been three months since Japan was hit by a string of disasters in March, including a major earthquake and tsunami that crippled the Fukushima-1 Nuclear Power Plant. After the disasters, the nuclear plant began leaking millions of tons of radioactive material into the Pacific Ocean.
Natural ocean currents will ultimately carry this radioactive material to North America’s Pacific Northwest, in particular Alaska, Washington, Oregon and British Columbia. The Pacific Northwest is a major producer of seafood and an important aspect in the economy of that region.
