The Don-2N multi-purpose radar is used to shield Moscow and Russia’s Central Economic Region from a hypothetical enemy strike.
The unique radar is located inside a huge truncated pyramid the size of an eleven-story building. Inside the pyramid there are special receivers and transmitters enabling the radar to detect objects with a diameter of five centimeters and more from a distance of over 2,000 kilometers.
The radar can discern between modern intercontinental ballistic missile warheads and false targets. The radar and missile interceptors are controlled from a command center, where military personnel work round the clock shifts. Moreover, the radar can even track space debris.
