The walls and ceilings of the chambers have been decorated with paintings based on historical sources. The rooms are lit by gilded wooden chandeliers. Some rooms have heating stoves decorated with glazed tiles.

The restoration of the palace in Kolomenskoye began in 2007. The museum first opened its doors to visitors in September 2010 but had to be closed a month later so that the interior design could be finished.
