Oriental motifs dominated the Ethno Erato fashion competition in Moscow. Designers from twenty Russian regions presented silk salwars, hijab veils in glowing colors and felt coats lavishly embroidered in the style of Turkic nomads. Swiss, Belarusian and Kazakh couturiers also competed in folk costume revivals.
The Ethno Erato competition is sponsored by the Interregional Women’s Public Organization Promoting Turkic Folk Traditions, the Moscow House of Nationalities and the Moscow Municipal Committee for Interregional Contacts and Nationalities Policy. The fashion world has no show comparable to this ethnic cultural contest.
