At least eight people were killed and several others injured after an armed person opened fire at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) facility in San Jose, California, the police said on Wednesday.
Law enforcement added that the suspect is also dead, which brings the total death toll to nine.
"I can confirm with you at this point that there are eight victims that are pronounced deceased at this point. And there's one suspect that's pronounced deceased", Russell Davis, a Santa Clara County Sheriff's deputy, said.
Earlier in the day, police responded to a shooting at around 6:34 a.m. local time at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) Light Rail train yard. The victims include employees at the facility.
The Los Angeles Times reported that the suspect set his house on fire before driving to the train yard, where he began shooting.
