US Election Live Updates: Trump Says 'Time Will Tell' Who Takes Oval Office in January

Joe Biden was declared winner of the presidential race on Saturday by major US media outlets. The incumbent, President Trump, opposed his projected victory, arguing that the ballot count was not over and claiming that voting in key states was rife with foul play.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, is sure Joe Biden "will be just fine" in the US presidential transition.

"He knows the territory," Pelosi told reporters. "It's most unfortunate that the Republicans have decided that they will not respect the will of the people."

Biden previously stated that the transition of power was underway and will proceed unhindered by Trump's refusal to concede defeat.

Last Saturday, major US media outlets projected Biden to be the winner of the presidential election. Trump also claims he is the winner but has said the election was stolen from him via massive voter fraud, demanding recounts and filing lawsuits to seek redress in court.

Projected President Joe Biden is looking at Independent Maine Senator Angus King as a candidate to head the US intelligence services, Politico reported.

Biden is looking at King, a longtime Senate colleague who caucuses with and generally supports the Democrats though remaining an Independent, to oversee the 17 main US intelligence agencies in the position, which President George W. Bush created in 2005, the report said on Friday.

Politico cited three sources whom it described as being familiar with the discussions on the appointments being currently held by the Biden's transition team.

King was a member of the US Senate Intelligence and Armed Services committees. King has been a critic of President Donald Trump and has accused him of politicizing the position Director of National Intelligence.

US President Donald Trump said time will determine who will take office on January 20 but his administration would not announce another lockdown despite COVID-19 surge.

“This administration will not be going into a lockdown. Hopefully, whatever happens in the future, who knows which administration it will be, I guess time will tell," Trump said during a press briefing on Friday.

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Friday that Facebook became a "part of the problem" with respect to election-related misinformation.

"I am not a big fan of Facebook, I do not know what they have been doing. But I know they have been part of the problem all along," Pelosi said during the press briefing when asked whether social media companies do enough to correct President Donald Trump’s statements about election fraud.

Pelosi said the election was "the most secure" in the US history and added that "there is no evidence that any voting system was deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or anyway compromised."

However, Pelosi called social media "a double-edged sword" in terms of communication during the election.

"I would hope that they would have some sense of responsibility because they were very much a part of causing this problem," she said.

The US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit has rejected a Republican party lawsuit seeking to invalidate nearly 10,000 late-arriving ballots in the battleground state of Pennsylvania, a court document revealed on Friday.

"Further, and independent of our holding on standing, we hold that the District Court did not err in denying Plaintiffs’ motion for injunctive relief out of concern for the settled expectations of voters and election officials. We will affirm the District Court’s denial of Plaintiffs’ emergency motion for a TRO or preliminary injunction," the court document said.

President Donald Trump's re-election campaign has abandoned its lawsuit contesting the results of the counting of the state of Arizona vote in the November 3 presidential election, his lawyers acknowledged in a court filing on Friday.

"Since the close of yesterday's hearing, the tabulation of votes statewide has rendered unnecessary a judicial ruling as to the presidential electors," the filing said.

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden was projected on Thursday to win Arizona and its 13 votes in the Electoral College

Russian President Vladimir Putin will congratulate the elected president of the United States after the official results are announced, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday.

"The president [of Russia] will, of course, send a congratulatory message to whoever is declared as the elected president [of the United States]. We have already said this. If we understand this correctly, the president-elect has not been declared yet," Peskov told reporters.

When asked if Russia would wait until the end of court proceedings if incumbent President Donald Trump went to court over the results, Peskov said, "It is not our concern when the official results are announced. As soon as the official results are tallied, Putin will send a congratulatory message."

Russian officials did not have any contacts with Biden's team, Peskov said.

"We are currently at a stage where the Americans have filed an official notification of leaving the WHO. I think their return can only be discussed if there is a new administration", Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia said, when asked if the US could return to the WHO under Joe Biden's possible presidency.

Biden has said that the US will restore membership of some organizations it previously left, the Russian diplomat added.

"He has already made a statement on the [Paris] climate accord. I do not remember whether he has mentioned the WHO, but I do not rule out that things that happened under the Trump administration could be reversed in the event of change of power", Nebenzia added.

According to the Edison Research projection, Joe Biden boosted his margin victory over President Donald Trump in Arizona by 11 Electoral College votes.

Major US media outlets have issued a similar projection, noting that Arizona, a longtime Republican stronghold, is poised to go blue for only the second time since 1948.

An unspecified number of Republican senators are calling on President Donald Trump to give Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, who has declared victory in the November 3 election, access to classified briefings, the corporate media reported.

The number of senators who have made the calls to Trump was not specified, but CNN said in a report on Thursday that their number is growing.

Senate Chuck Grassley, the most senior Republican in the upper chamber of Congress, and Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina have also made such calls, CNN said.

Republican Senate Majority Whip John Thune of South Dakota and Senators Rob Portman of Ohio and James Lankford of Oklahoma said they too believed Biden should be given access to classified briefings, the report said.

The US state of Wisconsin is preparing for a recount of the contested presidential election results, Wisconsin's chief election official, Meagan Wolfe, said during a briefing.

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is ahead of President Donald Trump by 20,427 votes in the state, according to an unofficial tally by the Wisconsin Elections Commission. Wisconsin carries ten electoral votes.

"We’re preparing for the potential of a recount," Wolfe said on Thursday.

In Wisconsin, a recount can be initiated by the runner-up in a race in which the difference between two candidates is 1 percent or less. Trump currently trails by 0.62 percent.

Should the Trump campaign go forth with a recount as it has promised, it will have to cover the costs.

Wolfe said the recount costs in 2020 are expected to be similar to the $2 million price tag of the 2016 presidential election recount.

A US federal judge in the state of Georgia has dismissed an attempt by President Donald Trump's reelection campaign to bring a lawsuit against the Cable News Network (CNN), a court ruling said.

"The court grants defendants’ motion and dismisses plaintiff’s complaint for failing sufficiently to plead malice," the ruling said on Thursday. "The court, however, allows plaintiff the opportunity to file an amended complaint."

The Trump campaign's complaint centered on an article published on June 13, 2019 in which CNN contributor Larry Noble claimed that the Trump campaign had assessed the potential risks and benefits of again seeking Russia’s help in 2020 and had decided to leave that option on the table.

A Pennsylvania court on Thursday barred the US state from counting mail-in ballots received after election day that involved ID fixes or missing information, but the subset is expected to fall below the threshold that would impact the final result.

"The Court hereby orders that Respondents County Boards of Elections are enjoined from counting any ballots that have been segregated pursuant to paragraph 1 of this Court’s order dated November 5, 2020, granting a special injunction," according to the ruling of one of two statewide intermediate appellate courts.

It is only natural to wait for the announcement of official results of US presidential election before sending congratulations, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday.

"With regard to congratulations, I wonder why so much attention is being paid to this issue. Congratulations are usually sent after the election results are officially announced. This has not happened in the United States," Lavrov said at a press conference.

The Russian foreign minister pointed to the fact that the only preliminary results so far available have compiled by US media and social networks.

"If it is in someone's tradition to send congratulations based on such grounds, we can do nothing about it. But our approach is different. It is necessary to wait for the official announcement of the outcome," Lavrov said.

Although the official results of the November 3 US presidential election are still lacking, projections of major US media showed this past Saturday that Democrat candidate Joe Biden had collected the necessary amount of electoral votes to claim victory, which he eventually did. Incumbent President Donald Trump has denied his defeat and claimed massive electoral fraud.

Pope Francis phoned Joe Biden on Thursday to offer "blessings and congratulations" on his projected victory in US presidential election, Biden's transition team said.

"The president-elect thanked His Holiness for extending blessings and congratulations and noted his appreciation for His Holiness' leadership in promoting peace, reconciliation, and the common bonds of humanity around the world," a readout of the call provided by Biden's office says, as quoted by AFP.

Biden is a devout Catholic.
