"Portland, which is out of control, should finally, after almost 3 months, bring in the National Guard," Trump said. "The Mayor and Governor are putting people’s lives at risk. They will be held responsible. The Guard is ready to act immediately. The Courthouse is secured by Homeland!”
Earlier on Monday, the Portland police said that a total of 16 people were arrested during violent riots that erupted in the city amid continuing anti-racism protests.
Protests against police brutality and racism started all across the US after the death of African American man George Floyd in police custody on 25 May. In Portland, the protests have turned into regular clashes with the federal forces that President Trump had deployed to the city despite the objections of state and local authorities.
