Live Updates: Hurricane Dorian Weakens to Category 4, But Still 'Extremely Dangerous' - NHC

The day before, the US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) upgraded Hurricane Dorian to a Category 5 storm with estimated sustained winds reaching 165 mph.

The NHC expects the storm to move dangerously close to Florida's east coast starting tonight and continuing through Wednesday.

The hurricane has already been ravaging the Bahamas since Sunday, with netizens sharing pictures and videos of the destruction that it has wrought. Days before the storm hit the islands, Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Minnis urged residents to evacuate to the main island.

Last Friday, US President Donald Trump issued an emergency declaration for Florida and "ordered federal assistance to supplement state, tribal and local response efforts". The president, however, has recently been caught making a controversial statement, saying he wasn't sure of ever having heard about a Category 5 hurricane.
