A 68-day-long counter-drug patrol, which ended for US Coast Guard sailors on December 17, turned out to be a success: crew members of USCGC Thetis not only recovered 800 kilograms of cocaine but also one sea turtle in need. The crew was investigating a debris field when they noticed the animal entangled in countless bales of drugs.
Sailors carefully cut off the ropes and released the animal into freedom.
According to the Coast Guard, more than 22 meters of line were found in the debris field along with more than 800 kilograms of cocaine dumped by smugglers.
