US President Donald Trump has repeated his call for building a wall on the border with Mexico as a US Border Patrol Agent died on Sunday after being injured while on duty.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine Duke, Border Patrol agent Rogelio Martinez died on Sunday from the injuries sustained on duty in the Big Bend Sector in Texas, while his partner remains in serious condition.

"Border Patrol Officer killed at Southern Border, another badly hurt. We will seek out and bring to justice those responsible. We will, and must, build the Wall!" Trump said on Twitter.

The authorities have not released any information on the nature of the incident, but Duke said in her Sunday statement that the Department of Homeland Security is "fully supporting the ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this tragic event."

Trump has been urging for the construction of the wall to stymie the flow of undocumented migrants into the United States since his presidential campaign. The US president has also insisted that Mexico would pay for the wall, but the suggestion has been repeatedly rebuffed by Mexican authorities.
