WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US President Donald Trump’s deputy assistant Sebastian Gorka has not tendered his resignation but no longer works at the White House, a senior official said Friday.

"Sebastian Gorka did not resign, but I can confirm he no longer works at the White House," the official told reporters.

US media have reported that Trump’s aide in charge of national security and counterterrorism had stepped down over divisions in the US administration, specifically over the new policy for Afghanistan.

Before the election, Trump criticized US presence in Afghanistan as a waste of troops and funding but had a change of heart and committed US forces to an open-ended "fight to win" in a foreign policy speech on Monday.
