Wyndham Lathem, a US citizen and a former Northwestern University professor, and Andrew Warren, an Oxford University employee from the United Kingdom, were charged with first-degree murder in Chicago, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The two men, suspected of murdering 26-year-old James Cornell-Duranleau, a hairstylist from Chicago, who was stabbed to death nearly 50 times in July, arrived in Chicago for interrogation late on Saturday, according to the WGN9 broadcaster.

The body of Cornell-Duranleau was found in an apartment building after an anonymous call was made. Autopsy results indicated that methamphetamine and a small amount of alcohol were found in his body.

Lathem and Cornell-Duranleau are believed to had a relationship prior to the latter’s death.

The suspects were on the run for eight days before turning themselves into police in California earlier in the month, the broadcaster reported.
