Friday Email Outage at State Department Not Linked to Hacking Activity

A system-wide email outage at the US State Department earlier on Friday was not linked to hacking activities, department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said during a press briefing on Friday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Media reported earlier on Friday that the State Department’s email system was experiencing an outage.

"To my awareness, [hacking] is not the case," Nauert stated when asked if the email outage may have been a result of hacking activity.

Nauert said the department’s email system is functioning after experiencing the internal issue.
