WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Defense Department pointed out that commanders have the discretion to determine when the reset will take place within the two-week window.
"General Robert B. Neller, Commandant of the US Marine Corps, directed US Marine Corps aviation units to conduct an operational reset for a 24 hour-period where no flight operations will take place but no operational commitments will be impacted," the release stated.
The goal of the reset is to review certain incidents and study historic examples of investigations into fleet incidents to bring about awareness and best practices.
This reset comes after the crash of an Osprey aircraft off the coast of Australia on Saturday, which killed three Marines.
