US Travel Ban to North Korea ‘Limiting Options for Peaceful Resolution’
MOSCOW (Sputnik) Almost two-thirds of US citizens (62 percent) believe that North Korea currently poses a very serious threat to the United States, and 77 percent think Pyongyang is capable of hitting the United States by a missile, a SSRS survey showed.

According to the poll released on Tuesday, 23 percent of respondents regard North Korea as a "moderately serious threat," while 9 percent of those surveyed see it as "just a slight threat." Only 5 percent do not consider Pyongyang to be dangerous for the United States.

Asked about North Korean military and weapons capabilities, almost half of US citizens (47 percent) said Pyongyang's military power is "a major problem" for the United States, whereas 32 percent believe it to be a "crisis" for the country.

The poll also showed that half of respondents were in favor of US military action against North Korea in response to its development and testing of weapons that could reach the US mainland.

With regard to North Korea's capability of launching a missile that could hit the United States, the vast majority of those surveyed (77 percent) consider it possible, while 20 percent have an opposite point of view.

The survey was conducted on August 3-6 among over 1,000 adults across the country.

The poll reflects views of US citizens prior to the statements made by US President Donald Trump and North Korea's Strategic Force.

On Tuesday, Trump told reporters at his gulf resort in New Jersey that North Korea would face an unprecedented level of "fire and fury" if it continues to threaten the United States. While earlier in the day, North Korea's Strategic Force said it was considering ballistic missile strikes near the Pacific Island of Guam, the US key military hub.

According to the CBS poll issued on Tuesday, a total of 29 percent of US citizens believe that military action is required to resolve the situation around North Korea.

The situation on the Korean Peninsula has become aggravated in recent months due to a series of missile launches and nuclear tests conducted by Pyongyang, all of which are claimed to be in violation of UN Security Council resolutions. Most recently, Pyongyang conducted tests of intercontinental ballistic missiles on July 4 and July 28.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has pledged to take decisive steps against the United States, including "physical action," after the United Nations Security Council passed Saturday a resolution on new sanctions against Pyongyang.
