US President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Wednesday to say that the US nuclear arsenal was stronger and more powerful than ever before, adding that America will remain "the most powerful nation in the world" forever.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Trump said Wednesday that the US nuclear arsenal was stronger and more powerful than ever before, expressing hope that the country would never have to use this power.

"My first order as President was to renovate and modernize our nuclear arsenal. It is now far stronger and more powerful than ever before. Hopefully we will never have to use this power, but there will never be a time that we are not the most powerful nation in the world!" Trump said on his Twitter account.

On May 23, the White House unveiled Trump’s fiscal year 2018 budget proposal. The plan makes cuts throughout government agencies, but boosts defense spending.

Back in 2016, Trump, yet to be inaugurated, said the US should expand its nuclear capabilities.
