US President Donald Trump believes Special Counsel Robert Mueller should not go beyond the scope of the Russia probe because he conducts no business with Moscow, according to White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US President Donald Trump believes Special Counsel Robert Mueller should not go beyond the scope of the Russia probe because he conducts no business with Moscow, White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a press briefing on Friday.

"The president's point is he does not want the special counsel to move beyond the scope and outside of his commission," Sanders stated. "And the president and his accountant team have been very clear he has no financial dealings with Russia."

Earlier this week, media reported that Mueller was widening the Russia investigation to include president Trump's financial records going as far back as a decade.

Trump told the New York Times that the special counsel would breach his mandate if he includes the financial records in the inquiry.

Sanders reiterated earlier statements that the president has nothing to do with the allegations that have been made and wants to move on as soon as possible.
