Trump’s approval fell below 40 percent after the firing of FBI Director James Comey in May, Gallup continued, clarifying that it only climbed back to 41 percent average during the week of May 22-28, when a deadly terrorist attack hit the UK city of Manchester.
Eighty-five percent of Republicans approve of Trump’s second quarter, compared to only 8 percent of Democrats and 34 percent of independents, the poll showed. The 77-percent gap between Republicans and Democrats is the largest level of US political polarization in history, according to Gallup.
The average job approval for Trump during his first six months in office makes up some 40 percent, the pollster concluded, adding that not a single rating has managed to climb above 50 percent.
The poll was conducted from April 20 — July 19, by way of telephone interviews among 52,765 US citizens from all across the country aged 18 and older. The margin of sampling error is around one percentage point.
