The US Supreme Court’s ruling on Wednesday to expand the scope of refugees admitted into the United States in President Donald Trump’s travel ban confirms he was overreaching his authority, US state of Hawaii Attorney General Doug Chin said in a press release on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court confirmed the Hawaii federal court order that grandparents, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins are considered close family and should be included in exemptions to the travel ban.

"This confirms we were right to say that the Trump Administration over-reached in trying to unilaterally keep families apart from each other, in violation of the Supreme Court’s prior ruling," Chin stated in the release.

US District Judge Derrick Watson in Honolulu, the capital of the US state of Hawaii, ruled that exceptions to President Donald Trump’s March 6 executive order restricting entry of foreign nationals into the United States should include grandparents, grandchildren, cousins and a number of other relations.
