Paul Ryan Believes Trump Jr. Should Testify Before Senate Judiciary Committee
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Donald Trump Jr. and Russian attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya did not meet to discuss the US 2016 presidential election or former Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, lawyer Scott Balber, who is familiar with the matter, told Sputnik on Thursday.

"We still have no reason to believe that the purpose of the meeting was to talk about Hillary Clinton or the US election," Balber said. "The only purpose of the meeting was for Natalia to talk about the Magnitsky Act, which is an issue we understand she’s passionate about."

On Tuesday, Trump Jr. released emails with British publicist Rob Goldstone, who represents Russian singer Emin Agalarov. Agalarov allegedly proposed the meeting between Trump's son and the Russian lawyer.

Goldstone claimed that Trump Jr. could be provided with "very high level and sensitive information" that would incriminate Clinton, according to the emails.

Balber, who represent Agalarov's family, underscored that a lot of the information in the emails between Goldstone and Trump Jr. is "just not true."

"We never would have tried to set it up if that was the case. It’s just, it’s all made up," the lawyer added.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday that Veselnitskaya did not represent the Russian government, and Veselnitskaya told NBC News on Tuesday that she never had any ties to the Kremlin or compromising information on Clinton.
