WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The amendment, introduced during US House Appropriations Committee meeting, would bar funds from being used "to issue, renew, or maintain a security clearance for any individual in a position in the Executive Office of the President who is under a criminal investigation by a federal law enforcement agency for aiding a foreign government."

According to media reports, Wasserman-Schultz plans to introduce a second amendment aimed at revoking security clearances of White House staffers who fail to disclose meeting with foreign nationals on their questionnaires submitted for positions pertaining to national security.

Jared Kushner was criticized earlier this year after reports emerged he met with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the presidential transition.

Wasserman-Schultz served as national campaign co-chair[ for Hillary Clinton's unsuccessful 2008 run for president of the United States and chairperson of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) since May 2011.

In July 2016, Wasserman-Schultz resigned from her DNC position after Wikileaks released hacked emails revealing she and other DNC staff acted to influence the presidential primary process in favor of candidate Hillary Clinton and against US Senator Bernie Sanders.
