WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — An invoice from the US consulate in Vancouver obtained by the Washington Post under a Freedom of Information Act request details government payments for rooms at the hotel, which bears the name of the US president.
According to the invoice, the State Department paid more than $15,000 for 19 rooms at the hotel for its grand opening in February.
No members of the US administration were present at the ceremony, but President Donald Trump’s daughter Tiffany and sons Trump Jr. and Eric attended with their families, the report noted.
The hotel pays the Trump Organization — the president's company that is currently in a trust under the control of his children — for use of the Trump name, according to the Washington Post. It is not owned by the company.
Last week, the director of the Office of Government ethics, Walter Shaub, resigned and told the broadcaster CBS that he believed Trump appears to be profiting personally from his presidency.
