President Donald Trump has released a statement calling his son "high-quality" and praising his transparency, in response to Donald Trump Jr.’s release of the emails between himself and a Russia lawyer ahead of their meeting in 2016, White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a press briefing on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Donald Trump Jr. made public the email chain with a publicist Rob Goldstone about a meeting with a Russian lawyer about compromising information on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

"My son is a high-quality person and I applaud his transparency," Trump stated as quoted by Sanders.

Over the weekend, The New York Times reported that Donald Trump Jr. had held an unreported meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya. The Russian lawyer has claimed that the 30-minute meeting focused on the Magnitsky Act and the issue of Russian adoptions by US citizens. On Sunday, Trump Jr. issued a statement, in which he said it had become clear during the meeting that Veselnitskaya had no meaningful information on the Democratic National Committee’s links with Russia-connected individuals.

In a different part of the article, The New York Times states that three people claimed email of Robert Glodstone, a music publicist representing Russian pop star Emin Agalarov, indicated the Russian government as the source of the information offered to Donald Trump Jr.

On Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he did not know who Veselnitskaya is.

On Tuesday, Veselnitskaya told NBC News that she never had any ties to the Kremlin and did not request a meeting with Trump's son during the 2016 campaign. Moreover, she noted in the interview she had no sensitive information about Clinton and had no intentions to damage the former presidential candidate's reputation.

Donald Trump Jr.’s lawyer Alan Futerfas said earlier that there have been no grounds for sensationalizing the fact that his client met with a Russian lawyer in 2016, calling it "much ado about nothing."
