US Senate Confirms Scott Gottlieb as Food and Drug Administration Commissioner

Scott Gottlieb, a top official at the George W. Bush administration, was confirmed Tuesday by the Senate to become the Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Senate voted on Tuesday to confirm Scott Gottlieb as the Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The final vote was 57 to 42.

Gottlieb was a top official at the FDA under President George W. Bush, serving in several roles including Deputy Commissioner for Medical and Scientific Affairs.

Gottlieb has also served as a consultant or board member for multiple phamaceutical companies, including GlaxoSmithKline and Vertex.
