US President Donald Trump has signed executive orders on federal hiring freeze and banning US non-governmental organizations that receive federal funding from providing abortions abroad, White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus said on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The so-called Mexico City policy strips US financial support from women's health clinics assisting with abortions around the globe.

"Next to be [signed is] federal government employee hiring freeze…except for the military," Priebus said presenting Trump with documents. "Next is the policy regarding Mexico City."

US States to Decide the Fate of Abortion, Trump Says
President Donald Trump issued an executive order on Monday to reinstate the Global Gag Order, which prohibits US federal funding for foreign non-governmental organizations that provide abortions, according to a press release on Monday from US Senator Jeanne Shaheen.

"This policy bans federal funds for non-governmental organizations that provide abortion services or provide information about abortion as part of family planning services," the release stated.

The order forces clinics to choose between providing limited reproductive health services while accepting US funds or providing comprehensive family planning and reproductive healthcare with a limited budget, the release explained.

"President (Donald) Trump’s reinstatement of the Global Gag Rule ignores decades of research, instead favoring ideological politics over women and families," Shaheen claimed.

"We know that when family planning services and contraceptives are easily accessible, there are fewer unplanned pregnancies, maternal deaths, and abortions." Earlier in the day, Shaheen said she will introduce bipartisan legislation to permanently repeal the recently instated Global Gag Order.
