The US Senate voted on Thursday in favor of granting a waiver for Secretary of Defense nominee Gen. James Mattis.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The waiver, which exempts Mattis from the legal requirement that he must have retired from active military duty more than seven years before serving as the country’s defense chief, gained the required 60 votes to pass.
