US Lawmaker Destroys Obama's 'Naive and Unprecedented' Arctic Drilling Ban

US House Natural Resources Committee Chairman, Republican Rob Bishop criticized President Barack Obama's ban on offshore drilling in the Arctic and Atlantic, deeming the action as an "abuse of power".

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Tuesday, Obama took action to ban oil and gas drilling off the northern shores of Alaska in both the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas.

"The extremes to which this president will go to appease special interests never ceases to amaze … This is not a moral calling, it's an abuse of power. Scratch below the facade of pragmatism and it is nothing more than ideological chest-thumping from the president for the far Left," Bishop said, as quoted by the Washington Examiner.

The lawmaker went on to say that this action would only hurt the US economy, claiming that the nation's offshore drilling is an integral part of producing energy for homes and businesses, as well as of developing the nation's competitiveness, the media outlet reported.

"This naive and unprecedented executive action undercuts our competitiveness and threatens regional economies across the country," Bishop said, as quoted by the media outlet.
