US defense contractor BAE Systems won a contract worth more than $19 million for production of integrated defensive electronic countermeasures decoys for F-18 fighter aircraft, the Pentagon said in a press release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The electronic countermeasure decoy is a radio frequency jamming device towed behind the fighter jet by a fiber optic cable designed to withstand the heat from afterburner exhaust.

"BAE Systems Electronics, Intelligence & Support/Electronic Solutions, Nashua, New Hampshire, is being awarded $19,667,739 to a previously awarded contract for…  integrated defensive electronic countermeasures AN/ALE-55 fiber optic towed decoys for the F/A-18E/F aircraft," the release stated.

The contract stipulates the procurement of 253 full-rate production decoys and logistics and other support.
