The US capital had the highest rate of homelessness among 32 cities analyzed in a survey from the US Conference of Mayors.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — According to the study, two thirds of surveyed cities had rates of homelessness higher than the national rate of homelessness.

“Rates of homelessness in cities studied ranged from 11 people in Wichita, KS to 124 people in Washington, DC," the study released on Wednesday reads.

The rate of homelessness in cities studied is higher than the national rate at 50.9 people experiencing homelessness per 10,000 in the general population, the study said.

The study noted, however, that while DC’s homeless rate was high it had the lowest percentage of unsheltered homeless at 3.9 percent.

According to its website, the US Conference of Mayors, an official nonpartisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more, has reported on homelessness since 1982.
