WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – US Secretary of State John Kerry congratulated Rex Tillerson on Tuesday on his nomination to become the next head of the Department of State.

"I congratulate Rex Tillerson on his nomination as Secretary of State," Kerry said in a statement. "The State Department will continue to provide our full support for a smooth transition, so that the incoming administration can pursue the important work of US foreign policy around the world."

Earlier in the day, President-elect Donald Trump officially announced that Tillerson has been chosen to be the next US Secretary of State.
